  Health Belief Model
  This model stipulates that health behaviour is related to four beliefs: belief about susceptibility to a condition, belief about the severity of a condition, belief that behaviours will reduce ones risk, and belief that benefits outweigh the costs or barriers.

  Preventable
  The Community Against Preventable Injuries came together to tackle a new approach to injury prevention via a social marketing campaign called Preventable. The Preventable campaign aims to reduce injury rates across British Columbia, and across all injury categories by changing societal attitudes towards injury and injury prevention.

  Protection motivation theory
  This theory suggests that action (behaviour) is unlikely unless the individual perceives that the threat is relevant and important to them. Threat appraisal and coping appraisal produce protection motivation and protective motivation is the likelihood that and individual will engage in protective action.

  Self-Efficacy
  Self-efficacy refers to one’s belief in their ability to succeed in specific situations or accomplish a task. An individuals sense of self-efficacy can play a major role in how they approaches goals, tasks, and challenges.

  Theory of Planned Behaviour
  This theory stresses that beliefs and perception are primarily useful for predicting and influencing behavioural intention. The theory of planned behaviour focuses on how attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control influence intention.

  The Three E’s
  The three E’s have shifted the focus of injury prevention from being an individual responsibility to more of a societal role. The three E’s refer to education, enforcement, and engineering, plus an extra E for economics.
